Come
see what's up!
Welcome to the Peterborough Astronomical Association's (PAA) website. We're an astronomy club with a membership of over 50 people that have an interest in the night sky.
On clear nights, members of all ages and levels of experience journey to dark locations in and near Peterborough to share views of the night sky through their telescopes, binoculars or with no equipment at all. On cloudy nights we'll feed your curiosity with access to an astronomy library with more than 80 books and nearly 100 astronomy videos and DVD’s. These are available to all members.
Don't have a telescope? The PAA has four loaner scopes that members are welcome to borrow. This is just one of the many advantages of being a member of the PAA.
Want to see and hear more? Throughout the year members enjoy informal talks from such notable figures as Professor David Patton, Canada's authority on galactic collisions, or learn how to read a meteor with Dr. Graham Wilson. You can join award-winning Discovery Channel journalist Peter McMahon as he treks across Canada in search of the ultimate wilderness stargazing locales, or enjoy tales of Mars with Steve Dodson, one of the few Canadians to have an asteroid bear his name and much, much more!
If you have an interest or are just curious about astronomy, you'll fit right in at one of our public observing sessions like the International Astronomy Day festivities at the Peterborough Centennial Museum and Archives (located at Armour Hill). For the date of year’s event please check our Schedule of Events. There will be more details, as we get closer to this event.
We also like to party. This coming fall, we may again join with the Kingston and Belleville RASC chapters at their Fall 'n Stars star party. This summer, our annual PAA Star-B-Q will feature special guests, like the York Simcoe Astronomy Club, in a giant observing session.
And did I mention tours to places like Haliburton Forest Observatory, the Anne Curry Observatory (Port Hope), the Buckhorn Observatory and a night at one of our club member’s personal observatories?
But the best way to get an idea of what we're all about, is to check out our Schedule of Events . If you find an event or subject that sounds interesting, why not drop by one of our meetings. Everyone is welcome to come a check us out.
Keep looking up,
