See the Universe Through Our Eyes

You certainly don’t need a telescope to join our club. The Peterborough Astronomical Association currently has four telescopes and a pair of binoculars that are available to the club’s members on a one-month loan basis.

Our current listing of PAA loaner scopes is as follows:

6” Dobsonian with eyepieces and finder
Replacement value $350
6” Dobsonian with eyepieces and finder
Replacement value $350
4.5” Dobsonian with eyepieces and finder
Replacement value $200
60mm refractor with eyepieces and red dot finder
Replacement value $100
7x50 binoculars
Replacement value $40

These telescopes are available by contacting our Observing Director, John Crossen at: 705-657-2544 or johnstargazer@xplornet.com . He is responsible for inspecting the telescopes to ensure that they are in proper working order prior to lending them out as well as examining them upon return.

Members who borrow a telescope are responsible for returning it in good condition and, other than normal wear and tear, will be charged for damages and missing parts. In the event that the telescope is stolen, lost or damaged beyond repair a fee of up to $350 will be charged to replace the telescope at current market prices.

Missing or damaged eyepieces are $30 each.
Missing or damaged finders are $30 each.
Repairs will be charged out at $15/hour with the proceeds going to the PAA and the Observing Director on a 50/50 basis.

Telescopes and binoculars must be signed out with a signed loaner agreement and are expected to be returned or have the period of the loan extended on a month-to-month basis. In fairness to other members, if one of the loaner scopes is requested by another member, it must be returned by whoever currently has it at the next club meeting.
